CRIMEAN CANNONS - WHERE ARE THEY NOW?White Star Line Parade Grounds also known as Kennedy Gardens Cobh Cork Ireland Cobh is a pretty town built on a steep hill on Great Island in Cork Harbour. Cobh was the departure point for 2.5 million of the six million Irish people who emigrated to North America between 1848 and 1950. These included Annie Moore and her two brothers, the first immigrants to be processed on Ellis Island in New York. It was also the last port of call for the Titanic. Two cannons are located on the sea front adjacent to the bandstand at Cobh. During the summer months regular band and music recitals take place there. The 2 cannons were returned from the Boer and Crimean Wars. The pictures here are of the Crimean Cannon.

Cobh has the occasional surprise, for example in 2008 cannon balls were found in the basement of 1 Upper Park, a late Georgian/Victorian building in Cobh, in Cork harbour. The 3,000 sq ft home, with elevated views over the town and to the harbour itself, was built in the early half of the 19th century for British naval officers, hence the naval artefacts and cannonballs found during the basement revamp.
